DILI, 15 February 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s rising boxing star Delio Mouzinho will leave for Canada next month for a six-month training camp to prepare for his next fight, said the Head of the El-Matadór Boxing Club and Mouzinho’s main trainer, Abilio Orlando dos Santos.
Santos said the six-month training camp will significantly improve Mouzinho’s boxing skills, including footwork, punching, defensive techniques, breathing, and strength and conditioning.
“During his stay in Canada, Caltech Group, El-Matador’s main sponsor, will cover accommodation costs, food, etc.,” Santos told Tatoli. “He will again raise our flag with great pride.”
Meanwhile, Mouzinho said he can’t wait to be trained in Canada, a country close to the U.S., where many big boxing events are held weekly. He believes this will inspire him to train harder and achieve his dream of fighting on U.S. soil one day.
“Training in a foreign country is an excellent opportunity for me. I’m determined to make the most of this golden opportunity and achieve positive results for my beloved country and my people,” the 24-year-old boxer from Lospalos Municipality said.
Mouzinho said he has dreamed of becoming a world champion and bringing home one of the IBF, WBA, WBO, or WBC titles: “I have brought home medals, but now I am determined to become Timor-Leste’s first world champion.”
It’s recalled that on Sunday night (09/02), Mouzinho brutally knocked out Uzbek boxer, Alisher Ismailov in round 2 at the Holywings Sports Show (HSS) in Bali, Indonesia.
Mouzinho, now, has an unbeaten 3-0 professional record, with all of these victories coming by knockout.
He was a highly successful amateur boxer, who won a silver medal at the SEA Games in Vietnam, in 2022, only losing to outstanding Filipino Eumir Marcial in the final.
Delio Mouzinho is indeed one of the most promising rising stars in Timor-Leste boxing. Nicknamed ‘El Bruto,’ he has gained recognition for his exceptional power, technical skills, and knockout ability.
Mouzinho joined El-Matador Boxing Club in 2022 and has been trained by local coach Abilio Orlando dos Santos.
