DILI, 19 February 2025 (TATOLI) – Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Ambassador Wang Wenli, on Tuesday met with Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira, and exchanged views on expanding Timor-Leste’s exports to China.
Minister Pereira thanked China for its long-term support to Timor-Leste and said that Timor-Leste attaches great importance to the Chinese market.
Minister Pereira Hoped that the two sides will jointly promote the export of high-quality Timor-Leste products such as coffee, agricultural products and aquatic products to China.
Ambassador Wang said that China and Timor-Leste’s trade relation has a good foundation and develops rapidly.
Since December of 2024, China has granted zero tariff treatment to Timor-Leste’s products under 100% of taxable items.
With Timor-Leste’s accession and the operation of direct flights between China and Timor-Leste, the potential for expanding trade cooperation between the two countries has been further increased.
“China is willing to actively expand the import of high-quality agricultural products and aquatic products from Timor-Leste, make positive contributions to the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation between China and Timor-Leste,” Ambassador Wenli.
