DILI, 25 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The Holy See Press Office provided an update on Monday about Pope Francis’ clinical condition, which remained critical but had shown a “slight improvement.”
“The Holy Father’s clinical conditions in their critical state show a slight improvement,” the Holy See Press Office said in a Monday evening bulletin.
The Vatican reported: “No episodes of asthmatic respiratory crisis occurred on Monday, and some laboratory test results have improved.”
“The monitoring of the mild renal insufficiency shows no cause for concern. Oxygen therapy continues, albeit with slightly reduced flow and oxygen percentage. The doctors, in view of the complexity of the clinical picture, are cautiously not yet releasing the prognosis. In the morning, he received the Eucharist, and in the afternoon, he resumed his work activities,” the Vatican reported.
Despite still being in critical condition, the Pope was able to resume some work yesterday. He called the parish priest of the Gaza parish to express his paternal closeness.
The Holy Father thanked all the people of God who have gathered to pray for his health in recent days.
Pope Francis, 88, has been battling double pneumonia since Tuesday (18/02) and remains in critical condition. He was admitted to Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital after being diagnosed with bronchitis on Friday (14/02).
Catholic leaders and faithful in Timor-Leste, including the outgoing Papal Nuncio, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, united in prayer for Pope Francis after his pneumonia diagnosis last week.
Pope Francis visited Timor-Leste in September 2024, becoming the first pope to visit the country since John Paul II in 1989.
The visit was a significant moment for the country, which gained independence from Indonesia in 2002.
The peak of Pope Francis’s historic visit to Timor-Leste was the celebration of Holy Mass in Tasi Tolu, attended by an estimated 600,000 faithful—almost half of the Timorese population.
