DILI, 28 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The Holy See Press Office said on Thursday evening that Pope Francis’ clinical condition continues to show improvement.
“The Holy Father’s clinical condition has continued to improve during the day,” the Vatican said in a statement.
The Holy See Press Office stated that the Pope alternated high-flow oxygen therapy with the use of the ventimask: “In view of the complexity of the clinical picture, further days of clinical stability will be needed in order to determine the prognosis.”
“The Holy Father dedicated the morning to respiratory physiotherapy, alternating it with rest, while in the afternoon, after a further session of physiotherapy, he prayed in the chapel of the private apartment on the tenth floor, receiving the Eucharist, and then devoted himself to work activities,” the Vatican said.
Pope Francis, 88, has been battling double pneumonia since Tuesday (18/02). He was admitted to Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital after being diagnosed with bronchitis on Friday (14/02).
Catholic leaders and faithful in Timor-Leste, including the outgoing Papal Nuncio, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, united in prayer for Pope Francis after his pneumonia diagnosis last week.
Pope Francis visited Timor-Leste in September 2024, becoming the first pope to visit the country since John Paul II in 1989.
The visit was a significant moment for the country, which gained independence from Indonesia in 2002.
The peak of Pope Francis’s historic visit to Timor-Leste was the celebration of Holy Mass in Tasi Tolu, attended by an estimated 600,000 faithful—almost half of the Timorese population.
