DILI, 13 March 2025 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate Jose Ramos Horta extended his heartfelt prayer and well wishes to His Holiness Pope Francisco on the 12th anniversary of his pontificate.
In his message to the Holy Father on March 13, 2025, President Horta conveyed the spiritual solidarity of the Timorese people during this significant occasion.
“On this special day, which marks the 12th anniversary of his Pontificate, we follow with hope and prayer the evolution of the Holy Father’s health, reiterating our wishes for his speedy recovery,” President Horta said in a statement released today. “May God strengthen him and grant him a full recovery, so that he may continue to enlighten us with his wisdom and compassion.”
The President reflected on the profound impact of Pope Francisco’s historic apostolic visit to Timor-Leste from September 9-11, 2024, which strengthened the profound relationship between Timor-Leste and the Holy See, leaving a social, religious and spiritual impact that will last for all generations.
“The presence of the Holy Father in our country renewed our commitment that ‘our faith continues to be our culture,’ deepening the values of peace, fraternity and human dignity,” the President stated. “The message of hope and solidarity conveyed during his visit continues to inspire the Timorese people in the construction of a more just and harmonious society.”
Horta expressed gratitude for the Holy Father’s leadership, noting how his Pontificate has been a source of spiritual guidance and inspiration for millions of faithful worldwide, including the people of Timor-Leste who find strength in his messages of faith, love, justice, peace, and solidarity.
The President praised the Holy Father’s example of humility and service, which continues to “guide us, especially in the face of global challenges.”
“His prophetic voice in defense of the most vulnerable and care for our Common Home remains as a beacon for humanity,” said Horta.
Horta expressed his profound gratitude for the Holy Father’s tireless service to the Church and the world, and praying for his continued health, strength, and wisdom in his mission of love and peace.
