DILI, 04 April 2025 (TATOLI) – U.S. Air Force General Steven Nordhaus, Chief of the National Guard Bureau, joined Vice Chief of Defense Major General Calisto dos Santos Coliati for the official handover of the aircraft hangar and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) warehouse to the F-FDTL Air Component in Baucau.
The handover represents a milestone in the enduring U.S.-Timor-Leste partnership, enhancing the F-FDTL’s disaster response and operational readiness and contributing to a safer, more resilient nation.
The event underscores the U.S. commitment to strengthening security ties with Timor-Leste and fostering a shared vision of peace and prosperity.
General Nordhaus arrived in Timor-Leste on Thursday (3/4), where he held meetings with President Horta and government officials, including Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, to discuss strengthening bilateral security cooperation between Timor-Leste and the United States.
In addition, during his meeting with Minister of Defense Donaciano do Rosário Gomes and Vice Chief of Defense Major General Calisto dos Santos Coliati, General Nordhaus also touched on deepening bilateral military cooperation, enhancing defense capabilities, and facilitating the exchange of strategic expertise.
The U.S. Embassy said that enhancing bilateral security cooperation between the two countries is important to ensuring regional stability and security across the Indo-Pacific: “General Nordhaus’s visit underscores U.S. commitment to strengthening security ties with Timor-Leste and fostering a shared vision of peace and prosperity.”
