DILI, 09 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The Timorese government, through the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, approved a Decree-Law for the establishment of “Cabos de Timor-Leste, EP” (CTL, EP).”
The draft Decree-Law was presented by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu.
Cabos de Timor-Leste is a state-owned enterprise (SOE) which will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and sustainable management of the new submarine fiber optic cable system, known as Timor-Leste South Submarine Cable System (TLSSC), as well as the terrestrial fiber optic network owned by the state.
“This measure seeks to enhance national digital connectivity by promoting modern infrastructure that will enable access to high-speed internet and stimulate the digital economy,” read a statement.
CTL, EP will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and expanding the telecommunications network, including managing the TLSSC, which connects Timor-Leste to Australia’s international Northwest Cable System (NWCS).
This public company will also oversee the establishment of points of presence and distribution networks throughout the national territory, offering high-speed internet services to the entire population through the national telecom operators
