DILI, 22 April 2025 (TATOLI) – Osaka Gas Foundation of International Cultural Exchange (OGFICE), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL), on Tuesday held a scholarship award ceremony together with the renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) at the FECT-UNTL Auditorium in Hera.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector of UNTL, Dean, lecturers, awarded students and their families, Japanese Embassy, OGFICE and JICA.
This collaborative project between OGFICE, JICA and UNTL started back in 2012 with the objective of providing financial support to the students enrolling in the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology (FEST) in UNTL.
A total of 20 students were granted this scholarship for the 2025 term, 10 students from the undergraduate program and another 10 from the graduate program: from different departments within the faculty. The cumulative number of students granted the scholarship since 2012 amounts to 340 students.
During his welcoming remarks, the Vice Rector of UNTL, Professor Dr. Samuel Venâncio de Sousa Freitas extended his welcome to the extinguished guests and his deepest gratitude to the government of Japan through JICA for their continuous support for the human resource development of Timor-Leste through various cooperations with UNTL.
Furthermore, three student representatives expressed their gratitude for providing the scholarship program and ensuring their commitment to work diligently and integrate their acquired skills into community development.
Lastly, JICA hopes that, through this scholarship program, we can contribute meaningfully to the development of Timor-Leste through fostering education opportunities and nurturing the next generation of talented youths.
