Timor-Leste strongly condemns terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir

DILI, 24 April 2025 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos Horta, condemns the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives.

 In an official letter addressed to the Honorable President of the Republic of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on April 23, 2025, President Horta conveyed deep sorrow over the incident and extended Timor-Leste’s solidarity with the Indian people during this difficult time.

Horta said: “It is with profound sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of lives in the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.”

“Timor-Leste strongly condemns this barbaric act that claimed innocent lives. We extend our solidarity to the Government and people of India and to the bereaved families. The grief of the families struck by this tragedy is also our grief, and we share in their mourning. We reaffirm our support to Indian authorities in the pursuit of justice and fight against terrorism. May the families of the victims find comfort and strength to overcome this moment of adversity,” Horta said in a statement.

Timor-Leste remains steadfast in its commitment to international peace and security and reiterates its strong stance against all forms of terrorism and extremism.

Indian authorities reported that 26 people were killed in the attack after gunmen opened fire on a group of domestic tourists from various parts of India, including Indore, Mumbai, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Kolkata, Kanpur, Bihar, Bengaluru, Pune, Bhavnagar, and other places — as well as Nepal.
