DILI, 06 June 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, in collaboration with the Market Development Facility (MDF), is promoting business-to-business (B2B) partnerships between Malaysian travel agents and local tour operators in Timor-Leste.

António da Silva, National Director of Tourism and Environment, explained that this initiative aligns with the launch of Batik Air’s inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Dili.

“The main goal of this event is to strengthen B2B ties between Malaysian travel agents and local tour operators. This is crucial for fostering collaboration, building trust, and creating new opportunities in Timor-Leste’s tourism sector,” said António at the Palm Spring Hotel in Fatuhada on Friday.

He added that the program also aims to give Malaysian travel agents a better understanding of Timor-Leste’s tourism offerings.

“We want industry players to get to know each other, establish open communication, and build long-term, sustainable partnerships,” he said.

As part of the program, a delegation from Malaysia—including 14 journalists and four tourism professionals from tour and travel agencies—is on a four-day visit from June 6 to 9, 2025, to explore Timor-Leste’s top travel destinations.

The initiative is fully supported by MDF, which is funded by the Australian Government. MDF helps drive sustainable economic development by supporting businesses and market players in identifying and developing commercial opportunities.

MDF focuses on increasing income for both women and men, especially those from low-income communities, across its partner countries, including Timor-Leste.

“This collaboration is expected to boost tourist arrivals from Malaysia and strengthen Timor-Leste’s position as an emerging travel destination in Southeast Asia,” António concluded.
