DILI, 20 June 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanan Gusmão turned 79 on Friday, receiving birthday wishes from national and political leaders and government members.
President José Ramos-Horta extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, praising his leadership and dedication to the nation.
“On this special day, as you celebrate your 79th birthday, I extend my warmest congratulations and heartfelt wishes to you, a true hero of our beloved nation,” Horta said in his congratulatory message to Prime Minister Gusmão.
“Your unwavering dedication to Timor-Leste spans decades of sacrifice, courage, and visionary leadership. From the mountains of resistance to the halls of government, you have consistently placed our people’s aspirations above all else,” Horta said in a statement. “Your journey from freedom fighter to President, and now as Prime Minister once again, exemplifies the spirit of service that defines true statesmanship.”
The Head of State said that the people of Timor-Leste are blessed to have Gusmão as their Prime Minister: “I am honored to work alongside you as we navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
“On this birthday, I wish you continued health, happiness, and strength. May this new year of your life bring you joy with your family and renewed energy as we continue our shared mission of serving our nation,” Horta added.
On behalf of all members of the Government, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Government Spokesperson, Agio Pereira, declares that, “on this special day, we pay tribute to the journey and leadership of Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, who continues to inspire the country with his example of courage, dedication, and vision.”
He said that under Gusmão’s guidance, the 9th Constitutional Government has carried out structural reforms and an ambitious development agenda, always with an eye on the well-being of the Timorese people and the sovereign affirmation of Timor-Leste in the world.
Meanwhile, the world’s youngest environmentalist from India, Licypriya Kangujam—who visited Timor-Leste last year—also extended her birthday wishes to Prime Minister Gusmão through a post on Facebook.
“A Warm Happy Birthday to His Excellency Mr Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste. I’m praying for your long and healthy life. Please enjoy your day with family,” Kangujam shared on Facebook.
Abilio Barros, Executive Director of the Bamboo Institute, also joined thousands on social media to congratulate Prime Minister Gusmão, praising and honoring his unwavering dedication and leadership in serving the nation.
Birthday wishes to Prime Minister Gusmão poured in from all sectors, including the Ministry of State Administration, BNCTL, Telkomcel, the Public Service Commission (PSC), the Land and Maritime Boundary Office, and others.
