Timor-Leste and Woodside Advance Talks on Greater Sunrise Development

DILI, 03 July 2025 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, hosted a Woodside Energy technical delegation in Dili on Thursday to strengthen cooperation on the development of the Greater Sunrise gas field.

The meeting followed high-level discussions between Minister Monteiro and Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill on the sidelines of the LNG Producer–Consumer Conference recently held in Tokyo.

Held at the office of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPMR), the meeting served as a for continued alignment between Timor-Leste and Woodside on the development of the Greater Sunrise gas field.

The engagement reflects the Government of Timor-Leste’s determination to advance the Greater Sunrise project in close partnership with its joint venture stakeholders and to promote sustainable and sovereign-led energy development on the South Coast.

Minister Monteiro and his team presented the country’s vision for the oil and gas sector, including the integrated downstream development strategy under the Tasi Mane Project. This includes the TLNG project and associated pipeline infrastructure.

The discussions also addressed cooperation frameworks, technical planning, and the potential for joint efforts in establishing a commercially attractive structure for investment.

Minister Monteiro reaffirmed the government’s commitment to progressing the legal and contractual documents required for the Greater Sunrise Special Regime and expressed readiness to work with all joint venture partners to achieve alignment on a single development concept.
