Late Equalizer Secures Timor-Leste Thrilling 4–4 Draw with Myanmar at ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup 2025
DILI, 17 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste staged a stunning comeback to secure a 4–4 draw against Myanmar in Group C of the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup 2025, with Alexandro Corsino Bakhito Lemos scoring a stoppage-time equalizer at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Indonesia on 16 July.
Timor-Leste, under coach Simon Elissetche, came back from two goals down at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium to snatch a point in a thrilling encounter.
Myanmar led 2–0 after 39 minutes, with Shine Wanna Aung opening the scoring via a deflected shot and Zaw Win Thein converting a penalty following a foul by Timorese goalkeeper Egidio Lurio.
Zenivio Gostavo Conceição reduced the deficit in first-half added time and later played a key role in Timor-Leste’s equalizer in the 53rd minute, assisting Luis Figo’s header after a quick exchange with Alexandro.
Myanmar quickly restored their lead through Than Toe Aung before Min Maw Oo capitalized on a midfield error to make it 4–2. But Timor-Leste refused to back down—Vabio Canavaro’s long-range strike in the 75th minute reignited hope, and in the 91st minute, Alexandro finished from close range after Zenivio’s low cross to seal a memorable comeback.
Zenivio was named Mandiri Player of the Match for his performance.
The next round of group-stage fixtures continues on Friday, 18 July, with Malaysia vs Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia vs the Philippines in Group A at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
Group B and C action resumes on Saturday, 19 July, at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium. Defending champions Vietnam face Laos at 5:00 PM, followed by Thailand vs Timor-Leste at 8:00 PM.
The top team from each group, along with the best second-placed team, will advance to the semi-finals on 25 July. The final will take place on 29 July at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
