DILI, 20 July 2025 (TATOLI) – The Portuguese women’s team defeated Timor-Leste in the field tennis event held during the CPLP Sports Games in Dili.
In the first match, Portugal’s women overcame Timor-Leste with a set score of 6–1. Despite this, Timor-Leste continued their effort into the second set, but Portugal maintained dominance on the court and won with a 6–0 score.
This field tennis match was officiated by Head Court A umpire Henrique João from Angola, and Court B umpire Frederico Sarmento from Timor-Leste.
On Court A, Portugal’s Beatriz Angelico faced Timor-Leste’s Graciabeth Valosa. On Court B, Portuguese athlete Sofia Ferreira took on Angola’s Filomena Gonçalves.
Portugal’s women also beat Angola on Court B with a first set score of 6–2 and a second set of 6–0, continuing Portugal’s dominance across both courts.
The matches on Courts A and B started at 2:30 PM and concluded by 3:30 PM.
Portugal ultimately emerged victorious in the field tennis event held at UNTL Central this Sunday.
“I’m happy to have won my first match in Timor-Leste because I gave my best effort on the court,” Beatriz Angelico said, expressing her joy.
She acknowledged feeling slightly nervous entering the first set, which led to several missed shots.
“I was nervous because I missed a lot of balls in the first set, but I managed to control my emotions and eventually won the match against Timor-Leste in field tennis,” she said.
Timor-Leste’s athlete, Graciabeth, also shared her experience, expressing happiness at getting the chance to meet athletes from other nations.
“Even though I lost, my spirit isn’t defeated. This kind of match helps me gain experience so I can perform better in future games,” she stated
