Bairo-Pite Clinic registers over 270 TB cases and 11 fatalities
DILI, 13 August 2025 (TATOLI) – From January through August 13, Bairo-Pite Clinic recorded 274 cases of tuberculosis (TB), including 11 fatalities, according to José Maia Soares, Program Manager for TB at the clinic.
“We’ve documented 274 TB cases since January 1 through August 13. Among these, five were children aged 0 to 14 years, and sadly, 11 patients passed away,” Soares told TATOLI at Bairo-Pite Clinic in Dili on Wednesday.
He noted that seven of the patients were treated at the Secular Institute Maun Alin iha Cristo (ISMAIC), while the remaining patients received regular medication at Bairo-Pite Clinic.
“TB patients must follow a strict medication schedule for six to nine months to fully recover. Failure to do so can result in death. Bairo-Pite Clinic is available 24 hours a day to provide care and support,” he emphasized.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that spread through the air from one person to another. It primarily affects the lungs but can also impact the brain, kidneys, and spine. Without treatment, TB can be fatal.
