DILI, 30 September 2025 (TATOLI) – Building on the success of its debut last year, the Embassy of Malaysia continues its partnership with the Dili International Film Festival (DIFF), and proudly presented yet another Malaysian action film titled ‘Conquer: Lahad Datu’ (Takluk: Lahad Datu), at the Platinum Cineplex in Timor Plaza.
Some 170 spectators thronged the screening which lasted 120 minutes. Inspired by the real-life 2013 Lahad Datu standoff, this 2024 film directed by Zulkarnain Azhar blends action, drama, and patriotism to depict the bravery and sacrifices of the Royal Malaysian Police elite force, as they defended the nation’s eastern borders against a militant incursion.
Now in its 7th edition, this year’s DIFF runs from 25 September to 12 October 2025, showcasing more than 70 films. Under the patronage of Timorese President Dr. José Ramos-Horta, DIFF continues to grow from strength to strength. At last year’s DIFF, the Embassy proudly screened ‘Airforce The Movie – Selagi Bernyawa’ (as long as alive).
The Embassy’s partnership with DIFF is part of its ongoing cultural diplomacy engagement, showcasing Malaysia’s vibrant film industry while fostering mutual understanding and closer ties between Malaysia and Timor-Leste, and beyond.
