KUALA LUMPUR, 27 October 2025 (TATOLI) – A vibrant reception was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to celebrate Timor-Leste’s official admission as the 11th member of ASEA, following the signing of the Declaration of Admission during the 47th ASEAN Summit. The celebration, attended by ASEAN leaders and dignitaries.
The event featured captivating cultural performances from Timor-Leste, including traditional dances and the presentation of the new ASEAN song, “Together We Rise, Together We Shine.” The performances highlighted the nation’s pride, unity, and cultural richness as it embarks on a new chapter within the regional bloc.
IN his address, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão expressed heartfelt gratitude to ASEAN leaders and the Government of Malaysia for their support throughout Timor-Leste’s accession journey.
“This dream realized for the people of Timor-Leste – a moment of pride, resilience, and belonging within the ASEAN family,” he said
Gusmão reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to contribute actively to ASEAN’s goals of peace, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as ASEAN Chair, warmly welcomed Timor-Leste, pledging continued guidance and partnership.
“Malaysia stands ready to support Timor-Leste as a fully functional and effective partner in ASEAN,” he said
The reception symbolized not only the culmination of Timor-Leste’s long journey toward ASEAN membership but also the strengthening of regional solidarity and inclusivity. As the evening concluded with a unifying rendition of “Together We Rise, Together We Shine” the moment marked a new beginning for both Timor-Leste and the ASEAN Community.
