DILI, 05 december 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, attended the celebration of Thailand’s National Day and Father’s Day this Friday, an occasion on which he honored the birthday and global legacy of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), highlighted as a beacon of compassionate leadership and exemplary public service.
Before the diplomatic corps and various guests, the Head of State also paid solemn tribute to the memory of the Queen Mother Sirikit. On the same occasion, he expressed solidarity with the Thai people and neighboring nations recently affected by severe weather events, underscoring the empathy and spirit of friendship that bind Timor-Leste and Thailand.
Ramos-Horta highlighted the historical depth of bilateral relations, recalling Thailand’s decisive contribution to the country’s peace and stability, namely through the service of military contingents that operated in Baucau and Viqueque beginning in 1999. The President also expressed deep gratitude for the Royal Family’s long-standing humanitarian commitment, especially the educational and school feeding initiatives promoted by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, which have benefited thousands of Timorese children for over a decade.
Looking to the future, Ramos-Horta thanked Thailand for its firm and continuous support for Timor-Leste’s integration process into ASEAN, reinforcing the country’s role as a strategic partner and a pillar of regional stability. The President reaffirmed the determination to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, and technical assistance.
The ceremony concluded with a toast in honor of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) and the enduring friendship between Timor-Leste and Thailand.
