DILI, 09 february 2026 (TATOLI) — The Interministerial Cybersecurity Working Group (GICS) held a technical meeting at the Government Palace in Dili on monday to advance national coordination on digital security.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, as part of the implementation of Order No. 021/PM/X/2025, which established the interministerial coordination mechanism.
According to the government, the session focused on a technical review and the collection of specialised input for a proposed “cybersecurity package”.
The initiative aims to strengthen the legal, institutional and operational frameworks required to protect critical national systems.
Particular attention was given to safeguarding the Timor-Leste South Submarine Cable (TLSSC), described as a strategic infrastructure essential to the country’s digital sovereignty and national security.
The GICS brings together senior government officials and leaders of key state institutions. It is chaired by the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and includes the Minister of Transport and Communications and the Minister of Justice.
The Director-General of the National Strategic Intelligence Service (SNIE) serves as technical coordinator, while the Director of TIC Timor acts as deputy technical coordinator. Other national entities with responsibilities in security, justice, communications and financial supervision also participate in the group.
The meeting marked the start of a series of technical and institutional sessions scheduled from 9 to 12 february. These include discussions with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the National Strategic Intelligence Service, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Timor-Leste, and justice sector institutions.
The government said the initiative is aimed at strengthening national preparedness in digital security and reinforcing protection of critical infrastructure.
