DILI, 23 March 2026 (TATOLI) – On Sunday, after leading the Angelus prayer with thousands of pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV called for an end to violence around the world, highlighting concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The Holy Father urged everyone to persevere in prayer, saying, “We cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering of so many people, innocent victims of these conflicts.”
Pope Leo expressed his deep concern over the ongoing situation in the Middle East and other parts of the world “torn apart by war and violence.”
He said that the ongoing violence will continue to wound everyone, noting that “what harms them, harms all of humanity.”
The Pope said that the pain, death, and suffering caused by the war in the Middle East are a “scandal to the whole human family.
The Pope once again called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, a conflict that has resulted in thousands of deaths since it began on February 28.
Since the U.S. and Israel launched their campaign on February 28, the conflict has claimed over 2,000 lives, disrupted markets, driven up fuel prices, and stoked fears of global inflation.
