BEIJING, 04 March 2026 (TATOLI) — China and the United States should respect each other and pursue peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, said Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14thNational People’s Congress (NPC).

Lou made the remarks during a press conference held a day before the opening of China’s annual “Two Sessions  at the Great Hall of the People, on Wednesday, March 4, in Beijing.

Xi Jinping, president of China, and Donald Trump, president of the United States, play an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations, Lou said.

He siad that as long as the two sides faithfully implement the important common understandings between the two presidents, uphold equality, respect and mutual benefit, and work to lengthen the list of cooperation and shorten the list of problems, the bilateral relationship will be able to move forward steadily.

Lou stressed that China is willing to work with the United States to strengthen communication at all levels and through various channels in order to create broader space for bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, he emphasized that China will continue to adhere to its principles and red lines.

“China will, as always, resolutely safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests,” he said.

He emphasized that China and the United States should be partners and friends, noting that both history and current realities point in that direction. “The vision of China and the U.S. supporting each other’s success and achieving shared prosperity is a realistic goal within reach,” Lou said.

Praising the interactions between the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the United States Congress over the past year, Lou Qinjian said China’s top legislature is willing to continue communication and cooperation with U.S. lawmakers to help promote stable and healthy China–U.S. relations from a legislative perspective.

“Last year, the NPC invited a US House of Representatives delegation to China, maintaining dialogue with US senators, and sent an NPC youth delegation to the US. A general feeling among US Congress members was that to meet is better than to look away, and to talk is better than to cut off,” Lou said.

He expressed hope that the U.S. Congress would view China and its development objectively and rationally, and take more steps that support bilateral relations and strengthen friendship between the two peoples.
