DILI, 11 April 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, held a farewell meeting on Friday with Malaysia’s ambassador, Amarjit Sarjit Sinh, praising his role in strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Praia dos Coqueiros, Dili, as the Malaysian envoy prepares to conclude his diplomatic mission.
Freitas commended the ambassador’s leadership in advancing cooperation across multiple sectors, highlighting Malaysia’s support for Timor-Leste’s bid to join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He noted Kuala Lumpur’s backing during the country’s formal admission at the 47th ASEAN Summit on Oct. 26, 2025.
Minister Freitas also conveyed his gratitude to the Government of Malaysia for its support in developing the capacity of Timorese human resources in various fields through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme, as well as for enhancing air connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Dili through the operations of Batik Air and Aero Dili.
Ambassador Amarjit Sarjit Sinh, expressed his sincere appreciation for the full support extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation throughout his diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste.
The Malaysian diplomat also thanked the Government of Timor-Leste for granting land for the future construction of Malaysia’s Embassy in Dili. Currently, technical teams in Malaysia are preparing the design to commence construction of the new Embassy.
Amarjit reaffirmed that the Government of Malaysia will continue to support Timor-Leste in its preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship, scheduled for 2029.
