“Love our forests and wildlife”: President Ramos-Horta and PM Gusmão officially open DIM Expo 2026

DÍLI, 07 August 2026 (TATOLI) – In a vibrant celebration of sport, culture, and environmental awareness, the President of the  Republic, José Ramos-Horta, joined by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, officially inaugurated the DIM EXPO 2026 at the Presidential Palace gardens.

Marking the 10th edition of the Dili International Marathon and the launch of Semana Matak (Green Week), the President noted that the expo transforms the palace grounds into a dynamic showcase of Timor-Leste’s innovation, volunteerism, and capacity to host major regional and international events.

Delivering his opening address to international delegates, local communities, and special guest Olympic Champion Rosa Mota, President Ramos-Horta emphasized the deep significance of this year’s theme, “Love our forests and wildlife.”

The Head of State passionately reminded the public that protecting the nation’s biodiversity, preserving the oceans, and promoting healthy lifestyles is not solely the government’s duty, but a collective responsibility essential for the health, well-being, and future of all Timorese citizens.

The Head of State concluded by expressing profound gratitude to the vast coalition of government ministries, civil society, and international sponsors including the European Union, BRI, and Australia’s NCCTRC whose cooperation made the massive event possible.

Directing his final words to the youth, he urged young Timorese to explore the expo’s community projects and environmental exhibits, declaring that the nation’s sustainable future rests on their creativity, knowledge, and entrepreneurial spirit.
