Timor-Leste inflation remains steady at 0.2% in July

DILI, 19 August 2026 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s monthly inflation remained at 0.2% in July, as higher prices for food, clothing and household goods offset lower transport and housing costs, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE-TL).
Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 0.3% during the month, while clothing and footwear increased 0.8%. Prices for household furnishings and maintenance equipment also edged up 0.2%.
Within the food category, vegetable prices rose 3.0%, followed by meat at 0.5%, oils and fats at 0.4%, and fruit at 0.1%.
The increases were partly offset by a 0.3% decline in transport prices and a 0.2% fall in housing costs.
INE-TL also recorded lower prices for several food and beverage items. Rice prices fell 1.3%, while sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery declined 1.5%. Milk, cheese and eggs fell 0.5%, while water, soft drinks and fruit juices dropped 0.9%.
On an annual basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 0.5% in July from the same month a year earlier.
Transport recorded the largest annual increase, rising 6.3%, followed by clothing and footwear at 1.1%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 0.4%, while housing, education and communications each increased 0.3%.
The annual rise was partly offset by lower prices in several categories. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco fell 0.7%, household furnishings and maintenance equipment declined 1.5%, and recreation and culture dropped 0.6%.
