Timor-Leste, Benin sign MoU on Visa Exemption for diplomatic and service passport holders
DÍLI, 28 September 2026 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin, Corinne Amori Brunet, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Visa Exemption for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports, on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The signing marks a new chapter in relations between Timor-Leste and Benin, facilitating official exchanges and strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The MoU also reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral relations, expand cooperation and build a forward-looking partnership founded on friendship, mutual respect and shared interests.
Benin is a country in West Africa, bordered by Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, and Burkina Faso and Niger to the north. It has a rich cultural heritage shaped by diverse ethnic traditions and is historically associated with the powerful Kingdom of Dahomey, which flourished in the region from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
Today, Benin is known for its cultural traditions, historic sites and vibrant arts, while its southern region extends along the Gulf of Guinea.
