SEA provides comparative study among school’s principals on promoting green school environment

DILI, 24 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Secretary of State for Environment protection has provided a comparative study among schools on implementing a green school’s environment in Timor-Leste.

Center information and education environmental Director, Amelinda Machado Fernandes said SEA is sharing information to the school’s principals, regarding the green school program.

“Some of the school directors are gathering and SEA is providing adequate information for the green school program,” Center Information and education environmental Director, Amelinda Machado Fernandes told reports at her office in Acait, 24 march, this friday.

She added that SEA is intent on a sustainable program for green school. It needed the continuation of the green school program to reach all schools across the country.

This activity is involving school directors and green school program’s coordinator to share information regarding promoting this program.

The school directors are presenting the different experiences on implementing green school activity in their school’s environment.

“This program can be well implementing must ensure the involvement of all parts in school’s structures,” She added

The students must be directly involved in planting trees. Also students are also actively ensuring the school environment must be well organized and clean.

It is required for the courage of school principals involving students and teachers to work together.  The activity is focused on curricular and extracurricular activities, which can ensure sustainability.

This program gives a positive impact as the school looks green with all trees growing well. The school environment is producing healthy and clean atmosphere for all people are living around that place,

It is known that six primary schools are currently implementing green school programs. It is composed of ABC primary school Esperança the Pátria, Santa Chatolic St. António Manatuto, ABC Hatuku Same, Don Martinho Maliana, Salele, primary school fatuku and Kasait primary schools.

This program was implemented in late 2016. Thus, this program will be expanded to programs in Vila Nova Baucau, Lautem and Viqueque municipalities.

Mrs. Fernandes stressed that SEA just provided the information and garden tree for school to plant in the school’s garden. It does not include industry trees which can risk school building students’ lives in the future. SEA is not providing financial support.
