DILI, 05 may 2022 (TATOLI)- The Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Zacarias Albano da Costa, congratulated the Portuguese-speaking community that celebrates the World Portuguese Language Day.
“The Portuguese language is the identity and an element of union between the nine Member States”, said Zacarias da Costa, in a message, addressed to TATOLI.
The Executive Secretary concludes that “the Portuguese language is a means by which the Member States of the organization jointly build a political, social, cultural and economic space in the name of common property and promote friendship, political consultation, diplomatic and of cooperation in all domains”.
He also added that “for Portuguese to become a language of scientific and cultural production, a language of peace, diplomacy, business, mobility, and inclusion. We wish it to be a model of the connection between peoples”.
Zacarias da Costa took the opportunity to express his gratitude to all those who joined forces to honor and celebrate the day of the Portuguese language.
“Today is a time to reflect on the deep ties that the Portuguese language provides us, as well as the enormous potential in our common language,” he added.
The Executive Secretary highlighted that the Portuguese language is spoken by more than 260 million citizens spread across five continents, estimating, according to United Nations projections that, the universe of Portuguese speakers will reach 500 million by the end of the century.
