Horta leaves Timor-Leste to deliver a speech at the UN

DILI, 21 september 2022 (TATOLI)- President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and the delegation left Timor-Leste for New York on wednesday to attend the annual meeting of the 77th United Nations General Assembly.

Horta and delegations were accompanied by the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, and other Government members to the Airport, before departing for New York.

The delegation left the Nicolau Lobato International Airport, with an Indonesian commercial flight, Batik Indonesia PK-LUV at exactly 11:13 am local hour.

President Horta will deliver an address at the UN General Assembly on the national and international issues that will become a positive reference for the international community regarding the situation in Timor-Leste. 

“As the state leader, I intend to speak on behalf of the State. So my speech is also a report of Timor-Leste to the International community on the reality facing Timor-Leste, including the progress made by Timor-Leste, country security, political tolerance, religious tolerance, no religious conflict, and no ethnic conflicts, and other national issue such as the prevention of covid-19 in Timor-Leste. So this is a good report to the world,” said Horta.

In addition, the State Leaders will also convey a message about the war in Ukraine that has had an international impact since Timor-Leste is currently under preparation to access the ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and WTO (World Trade Organization).

During the trip, Horta also arranged to meet with other leaders including the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinta Ardern, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani and Mark Lawrence Wolf a Senior Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and founder and chair of Integrity Initiatives International.

Horta was also set to meet with Patrick Lionel Djargun Dodson a Special Envoy for Reconciliation and Implementation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, who is also attending the high-level conference of the g7+.

President Horta and the delegation is set to return to Timor-Leste on 29 September 2022.
