DILI, 16 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government, through the Council of Ministers (CoM), approved today a draft resolution to open areas for mining activities in the national territory.
The Council of Ministers also approved the terms of reference of the tender for the attribution of mining rights for the exploration and production of construction materials in the country.
The Government is therefore opening up three areas within the national territory for mining activities, especially for the construction materials which are classified as industrial minerals, namely Laclo and Laleia rivers in Manatuto Municipality, and Loes river in Liquiça municipality.
The draft resolution was presented by the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Víctor da Conceição Soares.
“The terms of reference of tender for the distribution of the mining rights for the exploration and production of construction materials in the three defined mining areas were also approved,” said the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, at the Governmental Palace.
In may 4, the CoM also approved the draft Decree-Law, presented by the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Victor da Conceição Soares, to establish the Timor Mining Company.
The purpose of this national mining company is to carry out mining activities as defined by law, including reconnaissance, prospecting, research, evaluation, development, exploration, treatment, transport, and marketing of minerals, as well as mine shutdown activities.
The Timor Mining Company, may also carry out complementary or ancillary activities to mining activities and provide services related to mining activities, including, in particular, technical, commercial, and management consulting services in the mining sector.
