DILI, July 23, 2025 (TATOLI) – Portugal and Cape Verde emerged as frontrunners in four major athletics events at the CPLP Sports Games, held Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at Dili Municipal Stadium.
In the women’s 200-meter race, Cape Verde’s Silvanilda Carina Delgado Gomes claimed gold, while Portugal’s Maria Seguru Nandim and Leonor Silva de Freitas secured silver and bronze, respectively.
Portugal dominated the men’s 200-meter final, with Tiago Barros dos Santos taking gold and Tiago Miguel de Almeida winning silver. Cape Verde’s Keny Semedo Ramos rounded out the podium with a bronze.
Cape Verde continued its strong performance in the women’s 1500 meters, where Marina Rodrigues Delgado clinched gold. Portugal’s Luana Pereira Monteiro took silver, and Cape Verde’s Daira dos Santos Carvalho earned bronze.
In the mixed 4×100-meter relay, Portugal claimed another gold medal, followed by Cape Verde with silver and Angola with bronze.
Speaking to journalists, Silvanilda Gomes expressed her joy and gratitude after winning gold in the 200 meters. “I’m incredibly thankful—it wasn’t easy to win, especially knowing that Portuguese athletes have dominated the competition. Fortunately, today luck was on my side,” she said.
Gomes also thanked the Timorese people for their warm hospitality and unwavering support throughout the games.
