DILI, 27 August 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, approved a draft resolution requiring the Ministry of Health to prepare a comprehensive report on the Regime of Medical Assistance Abroad. The proposal was presented by the Minister of Finance, Santina Cardoso.

According to a government source, the resolution mandates that the report include details on existing agreements with international health facilities, the criteria used to determine eligibility for treatment abroad, and the role of the medical board in the patient referral process.

“The document should also provide a list of patients who have already received treatment under the scheme, as well as those currently awaiting treatment. Additionally, it must include an updated guide to support patient referrals and negotiations with international hospitals. The report and guide are to be submitted to the Council of Ministers within six months,” stated a government release accessed by TATOLI today.

It is worth noting that the Government has formalized agreements with hospitals in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and more recently with the Royal Darwin Hospital in Australia.
