DILI, 10 April 2026 (TATOLI) — The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), on Thursday convened a national workshop to review clinical nutrition guidelines and manuals on food hygiene and hospital meals.

The review, led by the ministry’s National Directorate of Nutrition, is aimed at strengthening nutrition services and improving food safety standards in health facilities across the country.

Health professionals, policymakers and development partners participated in the workshop, working to review and strengthen these guidelines to ensure every patient in Timor-Leste receives safe, appropriate, and nutritious food as part of their healing process.

Adequate nutrition is a cornerstone of quality health care and plays a vital role in patient recovery and overall outcomes.

“Safe and adequate nutrition is essential for patient recovery and quality health care,” said in a statement.

The revised guidelines are expected to support hospitals and health centers in delivering improved nutrition care while maintaining higher standards of food safety nationwide.

Hospital food should be treated as an integral part of medical care, making clinical nutrition guidelines and food safety protocols critical in addressing disease-related malnutrition and preventing foodborne infections among patients.

Such standards help ensure patients receive tailored, nutrient-rich diets that support recovery, lower the risk of complications and reduce hospital-acquired infections, ultimately improving clinical outcomes.
