Ambassador Xiao Jianguo encourages 38 Timorese students study hard while going back to China

DILI, 27 october 2022 (TATOLI)- Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo encouraged 38 Timorese students to study hard while going back to study in China.

Chinese Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo said Timor-Leste needs the skills from the young Timorese to develop this country: “The students who received the scholarships to study in China must work hard to compete with students from other countries. You must study hard on science and skill to work in Timor-Leste and develop this county,’’ Chinese Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo told journalists at Novo Turizmu, Lesidere, this thursday.

“With the relaxing of the pandemic, more Timorese students have expressed their ideas to be back to China to continue their studies, which we have paid a lot of attention to and have been trying hard to satisfy their requirements for returning,” said Ambassador Jianguo.

Ambassador Jianguo said The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted normal life many including Timorese students studying in China had to return to Timor-Leste, saying, therefore, China promise to send back as many students as possible to China to continue their studies.

China and 38 more students are going to embark on a journey to study in China. More than half of Timorese students will go to China soon,” said Ambassador.

The Executive Director of HRCDF, Cristóvão Dos Reis added, for the 38 students saying the government of Timor-Leste has provided some financial support for their return to China.

“The government of Timor-Leste through the Human Resource Capital Development Fund (HRCDF) has provided each student with the amount of 4.100, the description of this amount will be used for ticket S.3.700 and $.400 quarantine. These 38 students are scheduled to depart on November 2022,” said Reis.

According to MHESC’s previous data, 66 students are supposed to go back to China, however, after the verification process only 59 students are eligible to go back to China adding that the rest decided to not continue their studies and got jobs, and some have applied for other scholarships while some have decided to continue study in Timor-Leste National University (UNTL).

Esmeraldito Ferreira a scholarship expressed his gratitude to the China Embassy and the government of Timor-Leste for the effort made to send them back to continue studying in China.

“We promise to study hard and collect much knowledge from China to contribute to the development of Timor-Leste particularly in the economic sector and open job opportunities and also reduce the unemployment in this country.’’ He concluded.
