DILI, october 12, 2022 (TATOLI) – The Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH) has set up $270,600 for the return of the 66 scholarship students to China.

The Executive Director of the FDCH, Cristóvão dos Reis, recalled that the Government registered 126 students, while 66 are eligible, these 66 students were forced to return to the country in 2020 due to the public health crisis caused by Covid-19.

“We have identified 66 eligible scholarship students and, therefore, we are preparing their documents to continue their studies back in China. We have also allocated US$270,600 to buy the tickets and quarantine payments, every scholarship will receive US$4,000,” FDCH Executive Director Cristóvão dos Reis told Tatoli, at the Government Palace, Dili, this wednesday.

The official also recalled that at that time the Timorese executive worked in partnership with the Government of New Zealand to report these students to the country.

It is recalled that the Government had approved support measures for travel to or from the country – to Timorese who attend higher education courses abroad. The measures would be applied in pandemic situations, natural disasters, serious diseases, or armed conflicts.

Scholarship holders were forced to return to the country in 2020 due to the expiry of visas and, above all, the health crisis caused by the new coronavirus that emerged in the province of Wuhan in China.
