DILI, 9 july 2020 (TATOLI) – Government of East Timor signed $1 (one) million dollar record with the partnerships Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Stated Development Program (PUND) responds to the food security program amid covid-19 pandemic.The record with ABD acquires $1 million bill and PUND donates $105.335 bills, the amount will raise together with the amount of covid-19 for implementing the program of vulnerable people.
The government has allocated forward $19.1 million in the amount of covid-19, to the food accessing program.
The record signed is based on the decision from the council of minister that give a hand to the Ministry of Finance Fernando Hanjam to witness the contract for supporting the program.
Minister Hanjam said, the agreement providing for the funds to be invested in the local food production of national farmers and distribution to the most vulnerable families.
“Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery (MAF) and PUND will be responsible to implement the program,” he said
UNDP Representative Munkhtuya Altangerel said the program implementing intended to work in collaborating with farmers and the association of food producers within five municipalities such as Baucau, Bobonaro, Covalima, Dili and Oé-Cusse – to make the acquisition to agricultural food production, and the bill will be directly transfer to their account once we invest in the products of local food.
Director-General of MAP, Maria do Ceo Guterres, said the role of MAP and PNUD is to carry out the information and mechanism on how to invests in the products of local foods.
MAP has listed the complete local foods that available in both supermarkets in Dili specifically Timor Plaza and Mei Mart Fatuhada.
