DÌLI, July 20, 2020 (TATOLI)– The Minister of Education, Armindo Maia, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, Kathleen M. Fitzpatrick, have stated their commitment to strengthening cooperative ties in four key areas – Teacher training, English language training, School rehabilitation and School meals.

The four priorities of the program were initiated by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the former Minister of Education and U.S Ambassador Kathleen M. Fitzpatrick.

The Minister of Education Armindo Maia said that the English language training is currently at a standstill since the U.S trainers repatriation to their respective countries soon after the health crisis emergency caused by Covid-19 in Timor-Leste.

“Now this program has been suspended. However, when the situation normalizes, we will resume all aspects of this program” Armindo Maia told Tatoli after a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America at the Ministry of Education, Vila Verde.

U.S. Ambassador Kathleen M. Fitzpatrick said the goal of the cooperation is to accelerate the development process, with the emphasis on the education sector in Timor-Leste.

“The granted support from the U.S aims to improve the education sector by strengthening the capacity of human resources and infrastructure, as well as providing students with a healthy and nutrient-rich diet,” said Kathleen Fitzpatrick.
