Government approves water policy drafts

DILI, august 19, 2020 (TATOLI) – The Council of Minister approved the two resolutions draft related to the National Water Resources Management Policy and the National Water Supply Policy that allows the country to manage the water resources.

The draft resolutions, is presented by the Minister of Public Works (MPO), Salvador Soares dos Reis Pires.

“The propose is to have a policy that allows us to manage water resources, such as streams and lagoons, as well as benefit the populations in the agricultural, electricity, and among others sectors,” The President for Council of Minister Fidélis Leite Magalhães, told the journalist after the Wednesday meeting with the council of minister at the Government Palace.

According to Mr. Magalhães, the document will provide common picture and the line of deal for the national water policy management resource until 2030.

The document contains guidance and information for public authorities, water resource managers and all entities involved in “the preparation and implementation of legislation, regulations, policy, strategies, plans and actions for the management of water resources of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste”.

The minister also revealed that the Council of Ministers approved the National Water Supply Policy, aims to establish the government’s vision and objectives in relation to national and international commitments that related to water supply.
