DILI, 05 october 2020 (TATOLI)– Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has started to distribute clean water to the communities based on water supply schedule as the population are experiencing a clean water shortage as groundwater rapidly depletes due to a long dry season in some part of the country.
According to the head of Dili Water Department, Francisco Xavier Pereira, the Department has begun to distribute a clean water to the communities based on the schedule according to the areas after the water distribution system had stabilised.
for such reason Mr. Perreira said one day DWS is supplying the water to one or two villages in a day and the other will be on the following days.
“we have started this way before and planning on implementing the same thing in the other places for everyone to have access to the clean water, “he said.
Despite he added, the DWS will focus on the isolation system for the underground pipe. The valve must be controlled to supply the water only to the village water line, and will not share to another pipeline during the water distribution.
“if water was distributed once a day it would not be sufficient to all communities, since we all know the long dry season had started to severely affect daily life and cause water shortage,” he said.
according to him, the department will conduct a groundwater studies to assess groundwater availability, to preserve the water for the use of long term, and for the population daily necessity.
He also added the DWS is setting the effort to find more solutions on how clean water can be accessed by all communities and for that reason they have created water distribution schedule and will find another way related to the water issue.
