Agricultural Census 2019: Reveals Bobonaro as the Largest agriculture area in Timor-Leste

DILI, 12 October 2020 (TATOLI) — Vice-Minister of Finance, Sara Lobo Brites has introduced the agricultural census of 2019, during the extraordinary meeting of council ministers.

Economy Minister, Joaquim Amaral said, the report shows that 60% of families have been doing agriculture activities across and estimates property size of 219,250 hectares.

The reports published the statistical data and included first estimates from the June Agricultural Census. It shows the agriculture property areas in Bobonaro is more extensive than other regions in other municipalities, which is 41.000 hectares. In comparison, Emera district has 40.000 hectares, Baucau 25.000 hectares, while the Lautém only has 8.555 hectares, Manatuto hectares 3.371.

The result also shows within 141.738 hectares of agricultural property, there is 141.141 which belong to families, and 597 properties are private institutions.

According to him, the data gathering from the agricultural sector can help the government to define the politics surrounding the agriculture sector.

“The census has gathered the data from the agriculture sector, with the proposal to provide a way to define the politics and strategy for this sector, which will, in turn, support the national agriculture program during the Development of National Strategic Plan 2011-2030,”

Thus, the census will develop indicators objective of sustainability development (ODS2), surrounding the goal of zero starving and agriculture sustainability, this provides statistical data about agriculture sector in the village level and provides the national framework.
