CARE International hosts global handwashing day

DILI, 15 October 2020 (TATOLI)– CARE International hosts global handwashing day, with the theme of “Hand Hygiene for everyone” alongside several Other activities that will run over 30 days.

These activities will be organised to run from 15 of October to 15 of November 2020. They will involve competitions for washing hand through the social networks “CARE LAFAEK” page on Facebook. At the same time, the care employees will also do competitions for washing hands throughout 30 days.

This project is funded by the United States of America’s Department of Agriculture, to lead the competition alongside the Ministry of Education.

This competition is to demonstrate to students a guided action for washing hands within 30 days as a part of school habits, and these will be happing in Ainaro, Ermera, Liquiça and Manatuto.

The project for COVID-19, which is funded by the European Union, hosts global handwashing day at the community level through the announcement of hygiene equipment which will be provided to the Viqueque municipality.

“as we begin this campaign, I wish to invite the partners of CARE International, the Community Leaders, Teachers and Students to come to join us in our important period for the commemoration of handwashing day. This day is most important to remind us that the promotion of the hygiene is not only an event but a process of adaptive change though the measure of adjusted sustainable support and progress,” Director of CARE International in Timor-Leste, Peter Goodfellow at the press conference.

Global handwashing day is a dedicated global campaign that elevates the awareness of the importance of clean hands, especially washing hands thoroughly with soap and water, the campaign hopes to create permanent changes in the attitude from political level via action guided by the community.

CARE International in Timor-Leste believes that washing hands must be a responsibility of everyone, and needs to be improved by individuals and the community, for it to become a habit for the long term.
