Only 30% of urban populations paid for the water bill

DILI, 09 november 2020 (TATOLI)–The Head of the Department of water supply, Francisco Xavier Pereira said only 30% of consumers pay the bill owed on this to the government, the reason that a majority are not paying the bill is due to no repercussions or pressure from the government.

“The Majority of our population that uses the mainline of transmission from the National Department of water service are yet to pay their tax only around 30% have paid,” Francisco Xavier Pereira, told TATOLI at his office Caicoli Dili.

He added that the government offers water quality and quantity to the population in urban areas which is funded by the community paying their Taxes into the future.

“we will put in efforts to improve the system, to ensure we provide good quality large supplies of water for the population in the Dili, it is noted that automatically there is good quality and quantity of water if the entire population are willing to pay for the tax,” he said.

According to him, his department will conduct community awareness activities to raise awareness on how to manage water and use the water based on needs for everyone to be able to access to the clean water.

“Wasting of water and illegal drilling for water pipes is reduced in communities who are paying tax on their water,” he said.
