DÍLI, 13 november, 2020 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the United States of America to Timor-Leste, Kathleen M. Fitzpatrick, formally said farewell to the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú-Olo, at the President office Bairo Pité, Dili.
“It is a great pride for me to be at this meeting of my farewell with the President of the Republic. I spoke with the President about Timor-Leste’s recent past, which in relation to the struggling for the achievement of independence also about the construction and the strengthening of the country’s democracy ”, Kathleen M. Fitzpatrick, in told the journalists, after the meeting with President Lú-Olo, at the Presidential Palace.
Ms Fitzpatrick highlighted the USA commitment in mantaining the close cooperation with the State of Timor-Leste and creating partnerships in multiple areas such as the economy, health and training.
According to Ms Fitzpatrick, the support fund given to Timor-Leste aims to stimulate economic diversification throughout the pursuit of several projects.
In addition, the USA provided support to the health sector, particularly during the health crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic. The promotion of various training actions among young Timorese in the fields of police, justice and the armed forces was another aid action support which is carried out by the US Embassy in Timor-Leste.
“I want to affirm that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) group will continue to develop several programs in Timor-Leste. We hope and believe that our cooperation with the country can guarantee the execution of programs, such as water and sanitation and education ”, She said
“I want to strongly praise the hospitality of the President of the Republic as well as the loyalty of all Timorese,” She concluded.
