Timor-Leste Government praises Church pandemic efforts

DÍLI, 07 january, 2021 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, thanked the Catholic Church for the collaboration with the Government in actualizing the measures for the level nine state of emergency.

Speaking to the Journalist after the meeting with the President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, Taur said, Timor-Leste has had the decree-law that control the actualization of the emergency measures.

“The measures including the suspension for any religious activity, with a direct consequence to the non-realization of the Eucharistic celebration”, Prime Minsiter said

He also recalled that under the nine State of Emergency, the government limits for sporting and recreational gatherings, including for cultural events that will be involved the presence of more than ten people.

On the other hand, he said the Ministry of Education has recently issued a circular information which was stated the continuation of the school activities since the entire school communities are complied with sanitary measures. This includes a continuation of face mask requirements when people are in an indoor public space, and unable to social and physical distance.

At the same time, Prime Minister Matan Ruak said, the government also does not intends to prevent the continuation of basic basket program distribution but it is necessary to comply with all the emergency measures.

In spite on january 6, 2021, The Secretariat of State for Cooperatives (SECoop) has issued the order that required all the companies responsible for distributing of the Basic Basket to comply with the rules of the ninth state of emergency (EE) imposed by the Government.

The order was established with a set of rules which was indicated that the food distribution to all territories directly and indirectly was under the responsible of the SECoop, the companies must comply with the measures of the State of Emergency during the distribution process, maintaining physical and social distance, wearing of the masks and washing hands in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
