MHESC bans the universities to go ahead with in-person graduation commencement

DILI, 13 january 2021 (TATOLI) – Minister of Higher Education Science and Culture (MHESC), has forwarded an announcement letter to all the private and public universities announcing that graduation ceremonies will not go ahead as hoped due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“Yesterday I emphasized the message from the MHESC to the IESPP, demanded suspension for several activities such as graduation ceremonies also informing them the activities that will proceed under the convid-19 restriction,” he said.

Speaking to the Journalist Monteiro said, the Government will issue a sanction to Universities that will not comply with the rules from the Ministry.

“This is also a request that demanded the contribution from all the universities, in order to avoid the misunderstanding during the process of implementation,” he said

Despite the MHESC has cancelled the graduation ceremonies for this year’s, classes are continued to resume.

“The law allows the Ministry not to prevent the schools to continue the learning process but during the academy activities, the schools are fully controlled by the Ministry following the agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health to comply with the measures for covid-19.” He said.
