Head of F-FDTL requests the Government to completely closes the borders

DILI, 27 january 2021 (TATOLI)– Major General of Falintil-Forsa Defeza Timor-Leste (F-FDTL), ere Anan Timur, requests the government to close the borders, worried about the evolution of epidemiological situation in west timor, Indonesia.

Lere fears mounts of coronavirus variants spread in Timor-Leste.

“We met with the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, to let him know about our concerns regarding illegal entry over the land border.  With regards to the situation in the west Timur, I request the Government to completely close the entrance points, in order to take measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak so that country could protect itself from new and more transmissible strains of the virus”, Lere told the journalist after the meeting at the Palacio do Governo.

According to Lere, it is necessary to increase the number of security forces in the borders to ensure greater control and prevent people from crossing the border illegally.

Timor-Leste Defense Council and the State Council discuss with the President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, early Tuesday, regarding the situation in west Timur, Atambua, and concern about the possible spread of covid-19 in Timor-Leste.

“We are very concern because it could directly affect our country,” Gregorio de Sousa said.

According to Mr Sousa, both councils were very concerned about the situation in the neighboring Indonesia, which is why they believe that it is necessary to move forward with the extension for the state of emergency.
