Timor-Leste-WHO provides the training for administration of the vaccine

DILI, 14 february, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Health (MS) is cooperating with the World Health Organization (WHO) to develop a detail plan for the administration of the vaccine which are including the training of health and professionals.

“We started to provide the training for the doctors within the 12 municipalities including RAEOA on Adverse Events After Vaccination [AEFI, in English],” The WHO Representative Arvind Mathur said in his office WHO Caicoli, Dili.

Mr Mathur highlighted the propose of the training is to learn about the vaccine and explain the benefits of it to the public.

“We will conduct a training for municipal directors next week on how to mobilize for vaccination and build the teams in every municipalities to perform an adequate and safe administration,” he said.

Otherwise, there will also a training to be provided to the professional of media to disseminate information about the vaccination.

According to Mr Mathur the priority groups to be in the first line for the covid-19 vaccine are those who are over 65-year-old, those suffering from coronary heart disease, diabetes, tuberculosis, hypertension, cancer and asthma. While children under 18 will not be vaccinated.

WHO had informed the Timorese State ahead of the AtraZeneca Vaccine since it had more advantages than the other two vaccines Pfizer and Moderna but it will be depend on the decision from the Council of Minsiter.

Mathur added that people who are vaccinated with AstraZeneca may experience some side effects, such as fever between 24 and 48 hours, pain at the vaccine site or headache, itching or lack of appetite.
