DILI, March 13, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Australia, Inês de Almeida, said, The Australian Government had decided to extend the working visa to the entire Timorese workers who reside in Australia to continue working in Australia.

According to the Ambassador Almeida, the workers visa had expired last month. However, the Australian Government allows it to be extended for another year.

“The Government of Australia provide the opportunity to the workers to extend their visas, required no one to return to Timor-Leste,” Almeida told Tatoli, via WhatsApp.

There were 230 visas of Timorese workers expired last month, and they applied for a Temporary Protection Visa (TPV, in English) to remain in the country.

“I think that the issue concerned did not give Timor-Leste a good image and therefore the Embassy will inform the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve it and avoid this situation in the future,” She said.
