The United State (US) provides $100.000 to support the victims of natural disaster in Timor-Leste

DILI, 9 april 2021 (TATOLI) – The United States through USAID provides $100.000 in humanitarian assistance funding from the American people to support heavily affected families during the natural calamity in Timor-Leste. 

This funding will be used by  the IOM Timor-Leste, working with Timor-Leste’s State Secretariat for Civil Protection, to provide cooking tools, hygiene kits, and basic emergency shelter materials to the victims.

The Ambassador of The United States (US) to Timor-Leste, Charles Kevin Blackstone express his sincere condolence to the Timorese families and friends and added that American people have long tradition of helping friends in needs.

“I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Timorese families and friends who have lost loved ones, homes and belongings as a result of the flooding. My team at the U.S. Mission to Timor-Leste and I worked quickly to make this funding available to support the people of Timor-Leste at this difficult time. The American people have a long tradition of helping friends in need.” Ambassador Blackstone said.

The Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Joquim Gusmão acknowledge the major flooding  has resulted a significant damage to the houses’ of the community and public infrastructures and many people were force to evacuate.

“With regards to this, the Government is working very hard to identify the houses that have been affected by the floods and provide the supports to recover our communities homes,”Gusmão said.

it is recalled that the U.S military and the F-FDTL are working side by side to recover after the recent flooding. U.S. Navy Seabees are proud to help clean up the Presidency’s Office that was affected by recent flooding
