Government requests for the extension of the State of Emergency

DILI, 21 april 2021 (TATOLI)– The Government’s Council of Minister (CM), propose to the President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo for the renewal of the level 13th of the state of emergency for another 30 days looking to ramp up restrictions to contain a surge in coronavirus.

“The Council of Minister met had decided to propose for the renewal of the State of Emergency for 30 days,” The President for the Council of Minister, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, said after the executive meeting held at the Palacio do Governo Dili, today. 

Mr. Magalhães said, the reason for the extension of the state of emergency is due to the fact the Infections are spreading in the capital and swift action is needed, with the medical system under strain in some areas, at the same time to protect the Public and National Health.

“Government has proposed to the Head of the State that the renewal of the SE, will limit the right of the citizens and some fundamental guarantees,” he said. 

While, the 12th State of Emergency is applied and will be ended on May 2, 2021.

From the outbreak begun on march 2020 until today, Timor-Leste has officially registered a total of 1.452 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 2 deaths, with 725 current active cases and 731 recoveries in the country.
