WHO offers covid-19 protective equipment to the Ministry of Health

DILI, april 26, 2021 (TATOLI) – The World Health Organization (WHO) today offered Timor-Leste equipment to combat covid-19 and humanitarian support for the victims of the April 4 floods. The material arrived today on a My Jet Express flight chartered by The WHO.

The assistance of this international organization consists of response equipment to covid-19 and emergency aid, totaling more than 13.25 tons, equivalent to about one million US dollars.

The WHO Representative, Arvind Mathur, said that the support granted today comes from the regional office for Southeast Asia and the WHO headquarters in Geneva.

“The aid that arrives today including material in response to covid-19, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), and post-flood aid, such as cholera diagnostic tests, diarrhea drugs, and materials for urgent surgery,” Arvin Mathur told the journalists at the Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Dili. 

The Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo, said that the equipment provided by WHO aims to help flood victims, especially those who are sick.

“At the time, we tried to support our patients affected by the floods and asked for support from our partners,” Ms. Belo said.
